We’ve got something new on the pumps at the Victoria Inn – a celebratory beer from Crouch Vale Brewery.

Tap Room 19 10th Anniversary Ale (3.9%) has been brewed to mark ten years of the brewery’s tap room. It’s a pale amber ale brewed with Summit, Apollo and Huell Melon hops, balanced with East Anglian malts and designed as a proper session beer.

At 3.9%, it’s an easy drinker with plenty of character – exactly the sort of pint that suits the pub.

A bit of background

Crouch Vale started life in 1981, when Colin Bocking and Rob Walster set up the brewery in South Woodham Ferrers. The original plant was assembled from second-hand equipment, with much of the work done by the founders themselves.

The first brew took place on 3rd October 1981 – Crouch Vale Best Bitter, an all-malt beer hopped with English Fuggles and Goldings.

Over the years, the brewery expanded its range and reach, picking up pubs along the way, including The Cap and Feathers in Tillingham and The Queens Head in Chelmsford.

One of their best-known beers, Brewers Gold (4%), went on to win CAMRA’s Supreme Champion Beer of Britain in both 2005 and 2006, and remains one of the defining golden ales brewed in the UK.

With demand continuing to grow, the brewery moved to larger purpose-built premises in 2006, but the ethos stayed the same – good ingredients, careful brewing and beers made by people who care about them.

The Tap Room 19 Anniversary Ale is now pouring here at the Victoria Inn.

See you at the bar!
